Oscar Peterson - Sings For Oscar [VINYL]

The complete LP + 2 bonus tracks - limited edition 180g audiophile vinyl pressing. 'Anita Sings for Oscar' was originally released under the title 'Anita Sings the Most'. It contained eleven tracks that were recorded in a studio in Chicago on January 31, 1957, backed by the legendary pianist Oscar Peterson's trio featuring guitarist Herb Ellis and bass giant Ray Brown. Anita's most enduring collaborator, drummer John Poole was also on hand for the date.

By the time of the 'Sings for Oscar' session, Peterson had already become a star in his own right whose fame allowed him to pick and choose his few dates as a sideman. He was used to at least receiving equal billing for such events and recordings, however, and it can only be presumed that the LP's original title 'Anita Sings the Most' coupled with the fact that none of the musicians' names would appear on the album cover, didn't sit quite right with the pianist. While he never overtly attempted to overshadow the singer, there can be little doubt that he pushed her to the full range of her abilities. On no other album does Anita come as close to sounding like a jazz horn player. O'Day, herself, considered this session - her sole collaboration with Peterson - among her finest recordings.
