Mike Daniels is one of the most respected musicians on the UK Traditional Jazz scene. He formed his first band in 1947 and still leads a band today. He specialised in the Classic Jazz of King Oliver, early Louis Armstrong and Jelly Roll Morton interpreting it with considerable skill and putting his own stamp on it. Because of his 'purism' this put him outside the excesses of the Trad Boom whilst retaining the respect of fellow musicians.
Mike Daniels is also a devoted semi-professional which was not an attractive proposition to major labels. He made one single for the Parlophone label and an LP for EMI's Lansdowne Jazz Series. This LP has become a collectors' classic and much sought after and forms the bulk of this CD release.
The Parlophone single is included plus six tracks made by the early band for a small label. A stable personnel gave the band considerable empathy and created some high quality Jazz
