Already having achieved major success as a touring band member, fiddler Mike Barnett steps out on his own in One Song Romance, showing off his incredible fiddle ability as well as his talent for songwriting.
Fiddler Mike Barnett is at the forefront of the new crop of acoustic instrumentalists that are redefining American string band music. His musical vision comes across in technicolor on One Song Romance, his first solo outing for Compass Records, establishing him as one of the pre-eminent fiddle players, singers and writers on the acoustic music scene.
One Song Romance is a gorgeously played and immaculately recorded project featuring entirely Barnett original tunes and songs. Stand out tracks include the new acoustic romp "Hopped the Train to Hudson" (featuring Noam Pikelny on banjo), the old-timey fiddle driven "Change Her Mind" featuring Tim O'Brien and Aoife O'Donovan and the hauntingly beautiful slow jazz-hued waltz "It Wasn't Meant to Be That Way" with Mike on vocals.
Mike Barnett grew up in Nashville and by his mid-teens had already recorded his first album and secured a regular spot touring with bluegrass legend Jesse McReynolds and the Viriginia Boys. He has gone on to tour and record with David Grisman, Jonathan Edwards and Tony Trischka. Barnett tours regularly as a member of the genre-defying band The Deadly Gentlemen as well as with The David Grisman Sextet.
