Singer and piano player Leslie 'Hutch' Hutchinson was one of the biggest cabaret stars in the world throughout the 1920s and 1930s, who based himself in London and was for a while the 'darling' of the aristocracy. He was hugely instrumental in popularising the songs of the great American composers such as Rodgers and Hart, George Gershwin, and in particular, Cole Porter, in Britain. He was also hugely important and influential in helping to establish the acceptance of black artists in Britain.
