The North-West of England is Alan Bell's homeland and the songs on this CD are about events and people within the North of Britain.\r

\r
In the 1960's Alan began writing songs in the folk idiom about the Fylde Coast in Lancashire. For, although the industrial revolution in Lancashire had generated hundreds of songs about people, work and events in the county, Alan could not find any traditional music or songs relating to the Fylde Coast.\r

\r
Fishing and farming in isolated wind swept communities had been the way of life for centuries but no musical heritage of those times has been found.\r
The 1960's was the time of the great revival of interest in folk music, which encouraged a whole generation of people to write songs. Alan's own songs were mainly for the Blackpool Taverners Folk Group of which Alan was a member. The group sang in folk clubs, concerts and on radio and television - and also appeared in a Royal Command Performance before disbanding after some thirty years.\r

\r
Over the years Alan's song writing developed and he explored other musical genres. He wrote song cycles for choral societies, musical suites for brass bands and songs for Radio Ballads.\r

\r
Alan's output continues with this collection.
