In 1999, Martin Taylor, 'the finest British guitarist of his generation' (The Times), became the first jazz musician to be signed by Sony Jazz UK in over three decades. It marked the high point of a career that started at 15 performing on the QE2 cruise liner with the legendary Count Basie Orchestra then to a ten year collaboration with Stephane Grappelli and finally to his recent successes in both the US and European jazz charts as a solo artist. Now for the first time two of his landmark early recordings are available on CD.\r

It was in 1978 that Taylor ventured into the studio for the first time to record three tracks with his friend and mentor Ike Isaacs. Those tracks remained unreleased until today. A few years later in 1983 he recorded his first solo album 'Sketches ? A Tribute to Art Tatum' which heralded him as one of the great guitar virtuosos. With only 1000 vinyl copies ever pressed of 'Sketches' it quickly became a collectors item as Taylor went on to achieve international success firstly with his Artistry and Portraits solo albums on Linn Records and now with the 'Kiss & Tell' and 'Nitelife' albums on the Sony Jazz/Columbia labels.\r

Now for the first time 'Sketches-A Tribute to Art Tatum' is available on CD including three bonus tracks taken from his first ever studio recording.
