JEM3 is an improvising trio that brings together the wide-ranging talents of three unique musicians: drummer JT Lewis, guitarist/reed player Elliott Sharp, and guitarist Marco Cappelli. The JEM3 found its genesis in an improvised set at the behest of Cappelli. The results felt great to all and so more shows followed. They decided to book a session at GSI Studios and this debut album Apices is the result. In addition to their mastery of their instruments and innovative approaches, JEM3 operates from the strategy of spontaneous composition with structure and narrative arc of equal weight to instrumental inventiveness. JT Lewis, a member of the band Harriet Tubman, has performed or recorded with many artists including Herbie Hancock, David Sanborn, Sting, Lou Reed, Marianne Faithfull, Elvis Costello, Whitney Houston, Debbie Harry, and more. Elliott Sharp is a composer and multi-instrumentalist who leads Terraplane and SysOrk and whose collaborators have included the Radiosinfonie Frankfurt, Cecil Taylor, Hubert Sumlin, Christian Marclay, Bachir Attar, Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, and Debbie Harry. Marco Cappelli has performed or recorded with a diverse array of artists including Anthony Coleman, Michel Godard, Butch Morris, Franco Piersanti, Jim Pugliese, Enrico Rava, Marc Ribot, Adam Rudolph and Markus Stockhausen.
