Forerunners of Krautrock, the group, founded in 1968 by drummer, singer and visionary Mani Neumeier, have been breaking boundaries since the beginning, fusing free jazz with rock'n'roll, experimenting with Indian, Southeast Asian and African rhythms and styles, to create their own brand of psychedelic cosmic rock, inspiring musicians and audiences the world over, especially in the United States and Japan.In 1978 Guru Guru changed their line-up once again and to communicate their musical change, they renamed themselves the Guru Guru Sun Band. Originally released in 1979, Hey Du! is a unique combination of Krautrock, Afro, Latin, Brazilian, Disco and Jazz. Highlights on this album are 'Giri Fushi,' on which Mani Neumeier uses a drum barrel from the Maldives, giving the song a unique touch, and the 10 minutes-long 'Atommolch,' a dark and bizarre Kraut rock song that became one of GURU GURU's all-time favourites.Recorded at the band's own studio in their community house in Finkenbach and in the studio of the iconic '70s music producer/engineer Conny Plank, who co-produced Hey Du! with GURU GURU.
