What exactly makes music have such a powerful impact on our mood? I ask myself this question every day, and each time I get a different answer.

The programme of the Ad libitum album includes works that vary in terms of expression, style, and, above all, emotions, as each of the compositions represents different feelings, while the common factor among the recital's pieces is power. The power of message and the power of influencing the emotions of another person. We, performers, have a strong bond with each piece, which directly influences the presented interpretations. The album features rarely performed works, including the nostalgic, dreamy, and yet surprising Reveille by Benjamin Britten and the deeply moving Romance in A minor by Sergei Rachmaninoff.

The CD also contains the recording premiere of Wojciech Sojka's piece Ad libitum (which he dedicated to me), from which the title of the album derives. This work, stylistically referring to Eugene Ysaye's Sonatas for solo violin, brims with violent and strong emotions, from anxiety and sadness to despair and longing.

The album also features one of my favourite pieces, that is Maurice Ravel's Sonata No. 1 for violin and piano. This is a one-movement, Impressionist sonata. While its harmonic scheme and an extremely spatial approach to the instruments' sound give the impression of a dialogue enveloping the listener with warmth and peace, although at times interrupted by impatient narrative.

In addition to the aforementioned works, you will also hear the youthful, energetic, and carefree Sonata No. 1 for violin and piano by Krzysztof Penderecki as well as Witold Lutoslawski's Subito, shimmering with diverse, flickering tone colours and sudden changes in mood. The album ends with Roxana's Song by Karol Szymanowski, whose seductive melody is also filled with sweet melancholy.

Together with Krzysztof, we invite you to join us on this musical journey and wish you a pleasant listening!
