Next on the Stage Door Pop imprint is Tommy Steele 'On Air', a landmark collection representing a unique archival discovery of recordings made by Tommy Steele from his popular 1964 radio series 'The Tommy Steele Steele Show'. All of the performances featured on this collection have gone unheard since their original transmission and this release ensures these historical broadcasts are no longer lost to history.

'On Air' features 31 previously unreleased tracks recorded in 1963 and subsequently broadcast on Tommy's weekly 1964 Sunday afternoon radio programme. Accompanied by Johnnie Spence and his Orchestra with vocal backing by The Raindrops (featuring popular vocalist Jackie Lee), the series saw Tommy perform a wide selection of popular standards, hits of the day and family favourites.

Many of the songs featured on this collection were only ever performed by Tommy on the radio series, including; 'Green Green', 'Acapulco 1922' and 'Money (That's What I Want)'. The compilation also has Tommy's first take on three numbers from Frank Loesser's musical masterpiece, 'Hans Christian Andersen,' ('The Ugly Duckling', 'Inchworm' and 'The King's New Clothes'), performed over 10 years before Tommy played the role in Harold Fielding's production at the London Palladium. Likewise, Tommy also performs 'Good Morning' from 'Singin' in the Rain', a musical he would later become forever associated with following the hit London Palladium production in 1983.

Other highlights include Tommy's original compositions 'Come on In' and 'I Puts the Lightie On' (co-written with Lionel Bart), plus live versions of songs Tommy had previously recorded like 'My Big Best Shoes', 'Hit Record' and 'Come on Let's Go'.

Tommy Steele 'On Air' features extensive liner notes by Sir Tommy Steele's biographer and archivist Sebastian Lassandro, plus an introduction from Sir Tommy Steele.

Tommy Steele 'On Air' is a limited edition pressing of 500 units only.
