Description
A profound and transformative experience, often described as "having one's life flash before their eyes," where individuals see their life history unfold in a rapid manifestation of autobiographical memory. This phenomenon, commonly reported in near-death experiences, profoundly changes how people view their life, allowing for a panoramic review of their entire existence and reflections on its cause or consequences. For older adults, life review can be a powerful tool for healing and growth, encouraging reflection on life events to come to terms with conflicts and regrets, and potentially improving life satisfaction, depression symptoms, and PTSD symptoms in the short term. By examining one's life and legacy, individuals can gain a deeper understanding of themselves and their place in the world, opening up a psychological and spiritual space for contemplation, transcendence, and a sense of peace and acceptance. This experience can be a catalyst for personal growth, self-awareness, and a renewed appreciation for life.
