Description
Immerse yourself in the fascinating world of early modern Spain, where chivalric romances shaped the lives of women and challenged traditional gender roles. This thought-provoking book explores the impact of Amadís de Gaula and Don Quixote on the culture of the time, revealing a genre that was not as masculine and archaic as previously thought. Through a nuanced analysis of romances from various European countries, the author argues for the egalitarian nature of chivalric literature. With its unique blend of historical insight and literary analysis, this book is a must-read for anyone interested in the intersection of literature, culture, and history. Published by multiple presses, this comprehensive study will transport you to a bygone era, where the lines between reality and fantasy blurred.
