Soul singer Maiiah's debut album is also the third from the Hamburg collective Angels of Libra and after their success with Irish singer Nathan Johnston, they are now following up brilliantly with this collaboration. Maiiah is a singer with roots in the Balkans who has lived for a long time in Dusseldorf, the city of the legendary Unique Club and the label of the same name. When she met the Hamburg producer, musician and composer Dennis Rux (Hamburg Spinners/Yeah! Yeah! Yeah! Studios) during the pandemic, the two realized that they shared a similar musical vision; together they love soul music and old rhythm & blues. They start recording music together in Hamburg with the Angels of Libra. In the best soul tradition the single, 'No No No (I'm so broke)', denounces social injustices. The spirited singer wears her heart on her sleeve and sings here about her back-breaking job and her poor earnings as a hotel service worker. But of course life has more to offer than work and so a majority of the songs on this record are about love. With Dennis Rux at her side and the powerful arrangements of the Angels of Libra, Maiiah has found the right partners for her debut; this is the successful combination of authentic lyrics and to-the-point arrangements with tight brass sections, background vocals and the spirit of the golden times of soul music, as shaped by labels like Motown and Stax
