'Wait for Me' combines raw acoustic blues with traditional Mandinka music. It's the result of an encounter between Zita Swoon Group, the Antwerp collective formed by Deus co-founder Stef Kamil Carlens, and Burkina Fasso musicians Awa D\xe9m\xe9 and Mamadou Diabat\xe9 Kibi\xe9.\r
\r

Most songs deal with social and political issues, often relating to the problems of modern African society, yet the album is uplifting and captivating. Awa's soaring vocals, Stef Kamil's raspy delivery, subtle instrumental textures, and inventive arrangements performed by the eight excellent musicians all contribute to making this a unique listening experience.

After leaving the narrow 'rock band' framework of Deus, Stef Kamil Carlens sought out new musical adventures. Recently, he travelled to Burkina Faso, and was introduced to singer Awa D\xe9m\xe9 and balafon player Mamadou Diabat\xe9 Kibi\xe9 who are both griots, popular traditional storytellers. This encounter turned out to be the starting point of a fascinating collaboration. Stef Kamil spent a lot of time with them and they soon found a way to combine Mamadou and Awa's West African melodies and patterns with Stef Kamil's blues-rooted style.
