Hannah (Mika Boreem), Farrah (Scout Taylor-Compton), and Yancy (Kalli Flyn Childress) gather at Julies (Alexa Vega from SPY KIDS) parents house, and eagerly discuss plans for their forthcoming first year at high school. Their excitement is soon brought to a halt, however, when a group of rival girls led by the popular Stacie (Sarah Poxton) challenges them to a scavenger hunt. The stakes are high. So high, in fact, that the winners of the hunt will take a much-coveted place in the dining hall for lunch, thereby securing their popularity at high school. Unfortunately, Julies dad, Jay (Jeff Garlin from CURB YOUR ENTHUSIASM), is under orders from her mom (Jane Lynch) not to let the kids leave the house, and so Julie asks her older brother Ren (Sam Huntington) to cover for her while she sneaks out. As the girls undertake a variety of bizarre tasks, Ren and Jay offer plenty of comedic relief, with the clueless father frequently coming perilously close to realising where the girls are. Director Joe Nussbaum, infamous for the cult indie flick GEORGE LUCAS IN LOVE, proves his comedic chops with his first major studio film. Providing a wholesome teen movie that doesnt descend into tasteless jokes, Nussbaum draws on a strong cast to create a highly entertaining tale that both teenagers and adults will be able to embrace.
