This Month In Music - July - New Releases

As we get deeper into summer the volume of new releases fluctuates, but this July still has some amazing new music and some classics reissued.

Each month we will give you our pick of the new music coming out and our highlights from reissues.  Here is our quick pick for July - with maybe a little bonus at the end.

New Music

Moisturizer by Wet Leg

Wet Leg definitely put the tiny island of the Isle of Wight on the music map, their new album, Moisturizer is working hard to ensure they stay right there.

Featuring the signature energy and wit from the debut, Moisturizer also adds an element of maturity in terms of production and a tightness but matches the energy from their amazing live shows.

Loner by Barry Can't Swim

If you pick up any music press, the positivity surrounding Loner by Barry Can't Swim will have hit you and hit you hard. The follow-up to his debut album When We Will Land feels personal, introspective, and eclectic in style, featuring everything from floor fillers to melancholic moments.

Made Through Ritual by Plunky & Oneness of Juju

Made Through Ritual is the first international release in over 30 years by legendary Afro-jazz group, Oneness of Juju. Legendary producer Plunky brings the sound right back to now with great jazz samples, whilst not technically new it's so reconstructed it warrants a place at the table.  The album closes with the powerful track Children Of The Drum which celebrates black culture and legacy through poetry.

Reissues

Scissor Sisters by Scissor Sisters

This was a debut album that really made a name. The self-titled album Scissor Sisters felt different, dare we say, unique at the time. Yes, the group could be categorised as glam-rock, but it felt more than that.  It was released over 20 years ago and has sold well over 3m units.  The iconic vocals of lead singer Jake Shears really made the album pop.

The fact it was named in 1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die in the book of the same name, edited by Robert Dimery, proves the album is a must have!

Employment 20 by Kaiser Chiefs

Kaiser Chiefs really hit the scene in a big way just over 20 years ago, largely thanks to the anthemic single I Predict A Riot that catapulted the Yorkshire lads onto the music scene in a huge way.  The success of the single ensured the album Employment was a soundtrack to millions back in 2005 and now again in 2025.  The reissue is a genuine celebration of the cheeky, slightly rebellious debut, which somehow feels equally as current now, as it did back then.

Froot by Marina And The Diamonds

Froot was the third studio album by Marina And The Diamonds and marked what some consider the tightest and most accomplished album of the lot.  Less conceptual and more personal than her previous body of work.  The album gave Marina commercial success hitting the Top 10 in the UK and for the first time in the US.

Froot showcases Marina's talent for writing and storytelling, showcased by the catchy title track Froot and the emotional closer Immortal, which highlighted her vulnerability as a person.
