Superficially, this album could have been made any time in the past 40 years (swing, Latin grooves, solos-in-turn), but if Garrick is unimpressed by fashion, his playing and tunes retain a seductive sparkle. Floating on Summer has an appropriately airy Garrick solo; Trane's Mood an Afro Blue-like drive; a celebration of late sax legend Joe Harriott sets prodding piano chords against Hathaway's wheeling alto; and the same player is eloquent on a subtle clarinet exploration of Duke Ellington's Azure.
